Product information "Roman Shield"

A massive, towering shield, for a massive and towering army.

Turtle up and let nothing ever attack you again!

You strike your sword against your Roman Shield, shouting alongside your legionaries outside the gates of Syracuse. Inside, their people are filled with terror, deafened by your army’s trumpets and noise. Arrows rain down and you and your fellow soldiers form a barrier with your shields.

There is nothing that can stop you. The design of your shield allows you to stand in close formation, advancing on their defenders and dispatching them quickly.

DETAILS

Epic Armoury’s Roman Shield is a tower shield inspired by the formidable scutum of Ancient Rome. Hexagonally shaped with an elongated base, this 120 cm long shield features a decorated face that has been carved and hand painted to look like golden textured wings on a deep red background. At the centre sits a large shield boss designed to deflect weapons. The edge is rimmed with a brass coloured band with studs.

Wear this Roman Shield left or right-handed with the use of six versatile leather arm straps on the back, allowing for different fight styles and stances. Feel confident that this hard EVA foam and latex shield will withstand the continued abuse of a LARP with regular latex maintenance.

HISTORY

  • Iron rim was sometimes used as a way to reinforce the shield
  • Offered protection to most of the warrior’s body
  • Used the Shield Boss--the round, convex piece of material at the centre of the shield--to deflect blows
  • A shield was called a scutum in Latin
