ou've seen those nice medieval tents at so many events now.
You're pretty sure you want one. You've saved the money. But what to get?
We'll admit they're not the cheapest option available, and whileEpic Armoury's medieval tents are genuinely among the most practical, you want to make sure you're getting bang for your buck.
Well, we have a handy visual guide to help you figure out which tent is right for you.
The Lone Wolf
If it's just you, you can luxuriate in something as small as the 2x4m wedge tent. Not only is it simple to put up, but its sloped surfaces will help keep rain channeled away from you and your gear, with plenty of room to get around. The Alternative configuration is also pretty good as a small storage or even meal & meeting space. A 4 foot table easily fits in with space enough for four to sit for dark discussions. | ![]() |
The Odd Couple
![]() | A 3x5m Wedge tent is perfect for those that wish to have their own intimate space, but still enough room to stand up in the morning without tripping over each others armours after amoury. The alternative arrangement provides a large enough space to host a far less intimate meal of 4-6 companions, or even to store a warband's entire armoury with ease. |
![]() | But if you prefer to remain unwedged, require more overhead space, or even just a style of tent designed to maximise available ground space within an encampment without giving up the leg room, perhaps a 3m round pavilion is more your style. A conveniently placed centre pole provides a natural demarcation line informing both tenants as to which side of the tent is their domain and assists with the convenient keeping of chastity. When not being used for sleeping arrangements it also makes an ideal space to keep longer weapons without the need to resort to the construction of racks as the overhead space will allow spears up to 2.4m in length to be kept upright inside. |
Warband Billets
Look, those peasants had mysteriously drowned in pools of their own blood when the three of you had got there. And now that there's enough of you to form a tontine, just like that Australian made brand of pillows, in which you swear to never speak of it ever again. You can all sleep soundly on it, without smothering each other to be the last surviving member of the tontine, using a tontine. The point is that a 4x6m wedge tent is genuinely practical for sleeping a party of 3 and stowing all of your gear with ease. If you have cot style beds to stow your gear under, there'll even be space for a table for the lot of you to furtively cast glances at each other, shadows from the guttering lantern casting your waxy countenances in the palest of lights like souls that were snuffed out in the screams... such screams... ...but that was all before you got there, right?!
A non sleeping configuration provides more than enough space for a meeting tent to use a 6 foot table down the centre, allowing three on three parley, a mediator at the head, with space enough left over for guards in the corners. | ![]() |
An Adventurous Party
![]() | There sure are a lot of you needing a place to rest your weary heads when there's an entire warband. A 5x7m Wedge Tent easily has enough space for five people and their gear at a time! Six if you're able to stow gear under cots. Ask us politely and we'll even through in a packet of those breathe right strips that help reduce snoring! Let's be serious for a minute and talk about money though. At the recommended 5 persons, that's barely $325 a head. Break the math down further and you're looking at just over $80/pp/night even if you're only using it once! You get a period suitable tent for you and four mates at what each of you would end up spending on a decent swag individually, and there's room to stand up in, hang out, even play a round of Red Dragon Inn - drinking rules firmly on. |
![]() | The 5m round tent also makes an excellent space from which to run NPC or even genuine mercantile activities with just shy of 20sqm of space. It's a fantastic investment for those who wish to trade at LARPs or Medieval Fairs. Alternatively it can be used to sleep five, but is admittedly a little cramped. At least get to have the overhead space to stand in ? The 5m round tent presents a ground space economical way to encamp the same number of people, or for two couples in a more glamping configuration. Another potential alternative is pitching them with a 3 meter space between them and the doors facing towards each other, and combining together side by side or in a circle can create an effective privacy wall for the centre point of your camp. |
